Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar (compared with the original)

So I caved in (not with calories but with money) and purchased the Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar along with my Stila Patina liquid lipstick from Ulta online. I haven't used it enough yet, but I have some mixed feelings about it, but we'll get to that in a second.

The packaging is the same exact as the original, only is is a lighter brown. It is slightly lighter in weight at .14 oz (compared to the original in .20 oz). The plus side is that the names are finally printed on here rather than that stupid plastic inserted sheet (yes, I will always call it "the stupid plastic sheet"). This makes things a lot more convenient. And yes, there is still that sweet yummy scent.

This has warmer shades than the original whereas the original has neutral shades and various shades of violet (such as Black Forrest Truffle, Candied Violet and Amaretto).

When I read the reviews, some people said the Semi-Sweet had more pigment, some people say it had less. So what was it? I've found that the matte shades had less pigment than the shimmers.

Matte Shades (top to bottom): Coconut Creme, Nougat, Truffled, Puddin', Peanut Butter, Mousse).

Shimmer Shades (top to bottom): Hot Fudge, Cocoa Chili, Pink Sugar, Blueberry Swirl, Frosting, Rum Raisin, Caramel, Bon Bon and Butter Pecan.

How can I forget Licorice?! This is perfect for eyeliner!

Most people complained that Pink Sugar and Blueberry Swirl are not at all pigmented. I think that Pink Sugar is meant to be a topper for your matte shades. I would have to agree with the statement about the Blueberry Swirl, even when I topped it over my NYX Jumbo Milk liner. But I also didn't put primer underneath so that could be a factor too. At the same time, I feel like any blue shade would clash with my tanner skin, so I guess part of me feels happy that it's not super opaque.

I created a swatch comparison infographic above based on similar (but not quite) shades in both palettes. The ones labeled in the blue box are from the Semi-Sweet and the ones labeled in lavender are in the Original. Coco Chili is darker brown whereas Hazelnut is bronze. And even though the Semi-Sweet palette is warmer in shades overall, Milk Chocolate (from the original) is a tad bit warmer than Mousse. Hot Fudge (from the Semi-Sweet) is dark brown, almost black but not as black as licorice. And lastly, Peanut Butter is warmer than Salted Caramel, like a copper shade.

This palette also comes with the guide like the original. I followed the "Haute Cocoa" tutorial.

I think I need to start using this palette more to warm up to it the way I have to the original. I love the violet shades in the original, and I feel that the semi-sweet offers me the warmer shades that are more suited for my warm undertones. Also, it also has the really dark shades Licorice and Hot Fudge that you can use as eyeliner or for a sexy smokey eye. If you have the original, I would totally check this out and hey, maybe create looks from both palettes!
